August 3rd, 2010--Max Murphy, Class of 2011, has been fencing since the age of 10. From Overland Park, Kansas, Max has trained with The Kansas City Fencing Center and the Fencing Athletic Club of Kansas City. He has an impressive national and international resume, including numerous top 8 and top 16 finishes. Max was recently the first recipient of the resurrected Elwyn Bugge Fencing Award, won for his demonstration of leadership and compassion, and his significant contributions to the success and well being of the team. Max is a rising senior majoring in biology with a focus in molecular biology. His favorite classes have been Cellular Dynamics, Motility and Adhesion and Linear Algebra and Differential Equations.

While at Stanford, Max placed 2nd at the 2008 Western Regional Championships, 1st at the 2010 Western Regional Championships and qualified for NCAA championships each of his three seasons. Max served as captain for the 2009-2010 season and will return as senior captain next year.
